Fred's "Commutes"
Please respond to this blog with memories and stories or greetings for Fred. I'll start... For most of the decades, er, years that I was working on my dissertation, Fred was "commuting" from his home on Whidby Island to his homes in Ann Arbor...starting with a bedroll on the top floor of the Community Systems Foundation House and later alternating between John Nysteun's place, Larry Berlin's and his son Peter's. Between me, Martha, Mollie, John, Jeff, Michael, Carlos and doubtlessly many others, there was something of a friendly competition to secure opportunities to have a trip to or from the airport with Fred. That was VALUABLE time, as when he was actually in Ann Arbor his schedule was usually packed tight...though he still managed to be available at the many times when my work ran aground and I needed Fred's inspiration...he somehow never failed to deliver the goods, and though it often seemed like he'd hoisted me on his shoulders to carry me ov...
